FOOD FUNNY

Here's one that has been making the rounds on the internet for years,
and I publish it here for the benefit of those who haven't heard the
sad news. Thanks to Danee Yeater for sending it in.
PILLSBURY DOUGHBOY OBITUARY
Veteran Pillsbury spokesman Pop N. Fresh died yesterday of a severe
yeast infection. He was 71. Known to friends as Brown-n-Serve, Fresh
was an avid gardener and tennis player.
Fresh was buried in one of the largest funeral ceremonies in recent
years. Dozens of celebrities turned out including Mrs. Butterworth,
the California Raisins, Hungry Jack, Aunt Jemima, Betty Crocker, the
Hostess Twinkies, and Skippy.
The grave side was piled high with flours as longtime friend Aunt
Jemima delivered the eulogy, describing Fresh as a man who "never knew
how much he was kneaded."
Fresh rose quickly in show business, but his later life was filled
with many turnovers. He was not considered a very smart cookie,
wasting much of his dough on half-baked schemes - conned by those who
buttered him up. Still, even as a crusty old man, he was a roll model
for millions.
Fresh is survived by his second wife. They have two children and
another bun in the oven. The funeral was held at 3:50 for about 20
minutes.

TODAY'S RECIPE
__________________________________________________
As I said earlier in the week, it is difficult to identify dishes
unique to Washington, D.C. I publish this one because it is not only
fun to make and eat (get the kids involved in this one), but also
because I was a college student in Washington when I first saw this
gigantic chocolate chip cookie, and it remains a D.C. favorite in my
mind.
Chocolate Chip Pizza
1/2 cup (125 ml) sugar
1/2 cup (125 ml) dark brown sugar, packed
1/2 cup (125 ml) butter at room temperature
1 cup (250 ml) chunky peanut butter
1/2 tsp (2 ml) vanilla extract
1 egg
1 1/2 cups (375 ml) all-purpose flour
12 oz (335 g) semisweet chocolate chips*
1 cup (250 ml) chopped pecans (optional)
2 cups (500 ml) miniature marshmallows (optional)
* During the holiday season, consider substituting red and green M&M
candies
Combine the sugars, butter, peanut butter, vanilla, and the egg in a
mixing bowl and mix with an electric mixer. Beat in the flour and
spread the dough onto a disposable 12-inch (30 cm) aluminum pizza pan,
pressing it to form a rim around the edge. Bake in a preheated 375F
(190C) oven for 10 minutes. Sprinkle with chocolate chips and
optional pecans and/or marshmallows. Bake an additional 5 minutes,
until light golden brown. Remove from the oven, slice, and cool.
Serves 10 to 12.
