Thanks to reader Diane Martin for today's food funny:

A man was crying at the bar, so the bartender gave him a free drink.
"What s the trouble?" asked the friendly bartender.

"I got kicked out of Chef School for not finishing an assignment,"
said the man. "They said I gave them the oldest excuse in the book,
but all I did was tell the truth

"What did you say?"

"I told them the dog ate my homework."

The chances are pretty good that the children in your family would
choose this American standard as their favorite salad, probably
because it is usually loaded with sugar. This is a less sweet version
for more mature palates.

Carrot Salad

4 large carrots, grated
1/2 cup (125 ml) sour cream
1/2 cup (125 ml) mayonnaise
1/2 cup (15 ml) raisins
1/2 cup (125 ml) coarsely chopped pecans or walnuts
1 Tbs (15 ml) lemon juice
2 tsp (10 ml) grated lemon peel
Salt and freshly ground pepper to taste

Combine all ingredients and toss to combine. Serve chilled. Serves 4
to 6.
