Here's another from the mysterious and prolific "DRSPAGHETI":
Recently we had made some changes in our lives - my husband had lost
50 pounds and after eight years of being a housewife, I had taken a
job in a local restaurant. When I returned home after my first day of
work, I gave my husband a big hug. He seemed to cling to me longer
than usual. "Did you really miss me that much today, dear?" I asked.
"No," came the reply. "But you smell so much like pancakes that I
hate to let you go."

Here a fresh, healthy alternative to that awful green bean casserole
with the canned condensed soup and mysterious fried onion thingies:
Sweet and Sour Green Beans
1 lb (450 g) green beans (haricots), trimmed
3 - 4 slices bacon
1/2 medium onion, sliced
2 Tbs (30 ml) white wine vinegar
2 Tbs (30 ml) water
1 Tbs (15 ml) sugar or honey
Salt and freshly ground pepper to taste
Boil or steam the green beans until tender, about 20 minutes.
Meanwhile, fry the bacon until crisp. Remove the bacon from the pan
and drain on paper towels. Discard all but 1 tablespoon (15 ml) of
the bacon fat and saute the onion until tender, about 5 minutes. Add
the vinegar, water, sugar, salt, and pepper, and scrape the bottom of
the pan to dissolve any brown bits. Drain the beans and pour the
sauce over them, tossing to coat well. Top with crumbled bacon.
Serves 4 to 6.
