Here a true one from reader Pat Grove in South Africa:
Overheard in the kitchen whilst visiting a friend:
"Mommy what do you call it when you eat cows?
"Beef, Jan."
"What do you call it when you eat sheep?"
"Lamb, sweetie."
"And what are pigs called when you eat it?"
"Pork."
"Then, what do you call it when you eat people?"
"You don't eat people love."
"Then why did you say to Siobhan she could not have her friend around
as we were having people for supper?"

Here is a recipe that even the youngest cooks can prepare and modify
to suit their Daddy's tastes. Be sure to offer assistance in peeling
and preparing the onions to inexperienced chefs.
Manly Baked Onion
4 - 6 Vidalia or other sweet onions
1 - 2 tsp (5 - 10 ml) whole caraway, cumin, or fennel
seeds (whichever Daddy likes best)
4 - 6 Tbs (60 - 90 ml) honey, maple syrup, or brown
sugar (whichever Daddy likes best)
Salt and freshly ground pepper to taste
Using a sharp knife (be sure to ask for help if you are not
experienced with sharp knives), peel the onions and cut a small
depression in one end of the onion. Place the onions on a baking
sheet with the hollowed end up, and sprinkle with the seeds your Daddy
likes. Drizzle the honey, syrup, or brown sugar over the top, making
sure to fill the hollow. Season with salt and pepper and bake in a
preheated 350F (180C) oven for 45 minutes to 1 hour. Serve
immediately or at room temperature. Serves 4 to 6.
