Hearty Ham and Onion Melts

Sandwiches for supper? These will make your family feel like company!

Hearty Ham and Onion Melts
from Campbell's Kitchen

Prep/Cook Time: 20 min.

 Vegetable cooking spray
1 small red onion, thinly sliced
3 tbsp. balsamic vinegar
4 slices Pepperidge Farm&#174; German Dark Wheat Natural Whole Grain Bread
2 oz. deli-sliced reduced-sodium ham
2 oz. Muenster cheese slices OR provolone cheese slices

Directions:
 SPRAY nonstick skillet with vegetable cooking spray. Heat skillet over
medium heat 1 min. Add onions and cook until beginning to soften. Add
vinegar and cook 2 min. or until onions are softened and most of the
liquid has evaporated.
 TOP 2 bread slices with ham, cheese, onion mixture and remaining bread
slices.
 SPRAY nonstick skillet with vegetable cooking spray and heat over
medium heat 1 min. Place sandwiches in skillet. Cook until browned and
cheese is melted. Serves 2.

These sautéed onions can be made ahead and kept, refrigerated, for two
days. They add a continental touch to almost any sandwich.
