                            FOOD FUNNY

Here's a true food funny from Marlene Steinberg of Marina del Rey, CA:

I had this very conversation with my brother yesterday. After
25 days suffering from inflamed pancreatitis, my brother was
released from the hospital. He was given a very bland diet to
follow. He was complaining to me that not one of his seven
doctors mentioned anything about his eating chocolate. I told
him to just ask his doctor. He asked me which one. My answer
to him, "That's simple, just asked the fattest!"

                            TODAY'S RECIPE
__________________________________________________

Canned beans come to the rescue of the hurried cook in this
recipe, but you can soak and cook dried beans if that is what you have
on hand.

1 Tbs (15 ml) olive oil
1 onion, chopped
2-4 cloves garlic, finely chopped
1 lb (450 g) ground turkey
3 15-oz (425 g) cans chopped tomatoes with their liquid
2 15-oz (425 g) cans black beans, rinsed and drained
1 4-oz (110 g) can diced green chiles
2 Tbs (30 ml) chili powder, or to taste
1 Tbs (15 ml) ground cumin, or to taste
Salt and freshly ground pepper to taste
Optional garnishes: Sour cream, shredded cheddar cheese, chopped
scallions (spring onions), guacamole

Heat the oil in a large heavy pot over high heat and saute the
onion, garlic, and turkey meat until the meat is no longer pink.
Add the remaining ingredients and bring to a boil. Reduce the
heat and simmer covered, stirring occasionally, for 30 minutes.
Serve with optional garnishes as desired.
Serves 6 to 8.
