Rosemary Zwick isn't sure if chewing gum counts as food, but she points
out you do have to chew it.

Pilot: "Have you ever flown in a small plane before?"

Passenger: "No, I have not."

Pilot: "Well, here is some chewing gum. It will help to keep your ears from popping."

Pilot (after the plane landed): "Did the gum help?"

Passenger: "Yep. It worked fine. The only trouble is I can’t get the gum out of my ears."

Think of these as banana bread in the shape of cookies.

Banana Jumbos

1 cup (250 ml) butter
1 cup (250 ml) sugar
1 cup (250 ml) mashed ripe bananas (2 to 3 bananas)
2 eggs
1/2 cup (125 ml) buttermilk
1 tsp (5 ml) vanilla extract
3 cups (750 ml) all-purpose flour
1 1/2 tsp (7 ml) baking soda
1/2 tsp (2 ml) salt
1 cup (250 ml) chopped walnuts or pecans

Mix the butter, sugar, bananas, eggs, buttermilk, and vanilla
thoroughly. Stir in the flour, baking soda, and salt. Stir in the nuts
and refrigerate for 1 hour. Drop rounded teaspoonfuls 2 inches (5 cm)
apart on a lightly greased baking sheet. Bake in a preheated 375F (190C)
oven about 10 minutes, until lightly browned.
Makes about 3 1/2 dozen cookies.
