            FOOD FUNNY
__________________________________________________

This one has all the earmarks of a true food funny. Thanks to
Sarah Bach for sending it in.

A man comes home from an exhausting day at work, plops down
on the couch in front of the television, and tells his wife, "Get me a
beer before it starts!" The wife sighs and gets him a beer.

Ten minutes later, he says, "Get me another beer before it starts!"
She looks cross, but fetches another beer and slams it down next
to him. He finishes that beer and a few minutes later says, "Quick,
get me another beer, it's going to start any minute!"

The wife is furious. She yells at him, "Is that all you're going to do
tonight? Drink beer and sit in front of that TV! You're nothing but
a lazy, drunken, fat slob, and furthermore..."

The man sighs and says, "It's started."

            TODAY'S RECIPE
__________________________________________________

Use your choice of tawny or ruby port for this quick and easy
recipe. There is no need to use the more expensive vintage port,
but if you happen to have some on hand, what the heck.

Tomato Bouillon with Port

4 cups (1 L) tomato juice
1/4 cup (60 ml) port wine
1 small bay (laurel) leaf
1 stalk celery with leaves, chopped
2 Tbs (30 ml) fresh or 2 tsp (10 ml) dried basil
2 Tbs (30 ml) fresh or 2 tsp (10 ml) dried chives
1 tsp (5 ml) fennel seeds
Salt and freshly ground pepper to taste
Sour cream for garnish (optional)
Chopped fresh chives, parsley, or basil for garnish (optional)

Combine all ingredients except the garnishes in a saucepan
and bring to a boil over moderate heat. Simmer for 5 minutes,
stirring occasionally. Strain and serve hot or cold. Garnish as
desired. Serves 4 to 6.
