FOOD FUNNY
__________________________________________________
Thanks again to Rosemary Zwick of Cape Town, South Africa for yet
another food funny. Where does she get them all?
The husband had just finished the book "Man of the House". He
stormed into the house and walked directly up to his wife. Pointing
a finger in her face, he said, "From now on, I want you to know that
I am the man of this house, and my word is law! I want you to
prepare me a gourmet meal tonight, and when I'm finished eating my
meal, I expect a tasty dessert afterward. Then, after dinner and
dessert, you're going to draw me a bath so I can relax. And when
I'm finished with my bath, guess who's going to dress me and comb
my hair?"
His wife replied, "The funeral director."

TODAY'S RECIPE
__________________________________________________
I don't believe I've ever met a sausage I didn't like, and this
recipe will take even the best of sausages to new heights.
Bratwurst in Sweet and Sour Sauce (Suss-Saure Bratwurst)
6-8 bratwurst
2-3 cups water
1/4 cup (60 ml) dried currants or raisins
4 whole allspice, crushed
2 Tbs (30 ml) butter
2 Tbs (30 ml) all-purpose flour
1 Tbs (15 ml) sugar
1 Tbs (15 ml) lemon juice
Salt and freshly ground pepper to taste
Combine the bratwurst, water, currants, and allspice in a pot and
bring to a boil over moderate heat. Reduce the heat and simmer
covered for 20 minutes. Transfer the sausage to a plate and skim
off as much fat from the surface of the cooking liquid as possible.
Heat the butter in a large heavy skillet over moderate heat and stir
in the flour. Cook, stirring frequently, until the flour is lightly
browned. Stir in 1 cup (250 ml) of the cooking liquid, being sure
to include the currants. Stir until the sauce boils. Add the sugar
and lemon juice. Cut the sausages into thin rounds and add to the
sauce. Season with salt and pepper and serve immediately. Serves
4 to 6.
