Here's another one I've published before, but darned if I didn't
chuckle when I read it again. Thanks to reader Pat for sending it
this time.
One evening a man was very impressed with the meat entree his wife had
served. "What did you marinate this in?" he asked. His wife
immediately went into a long explanation about how much she loves him
and how life wouldn't be the same without him, etc.
Eventually, his puzzled expression made her interrupt her answer with
a question of her own, "What did you ask me?"
She chuckled at his answer and explained, "I thought you asked me if I
would marry you again!"
As she left the room, he called out, "Well, would you marry me again?"
Without hesitation, she replied, "Vinegar and barbecue sauce."

"Mom's Favorites" week continues with this salad that she picked up
during my family's years in Southeast Asia. Use any fresh greens, and
consider tossing in some sliced raw mushrooms or fresh bean sprouts.
Mixed Greens with Asian Dressing
3 Tbs (45 ml) roasted sesame oil
2 Tbs (30 ml) soy sauce
2 Tbs (30 ml) brown sugar
1 Tbs (15 ml) rice wine vinegar or lime juice
1 tsp (5 ml) freshly grated ginger
1 - 2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
2 scallions (spring onions), green and white parts,
finely chopped
Fresh salad greens
Whisk together the sesame oil, soy sauce, brown sugar, vinegar,
ginger, and garlic. Add the chopped scallions and toss with the salad
greens. Serves 4 to 6.
