Thanks to reader Ernst Kageler and his grandfather for today's food
funny:

Eight people were sitting at a well laid, sumptuous meal table, and
had just finished a course which included absolutely delicious
sausages. There was one solitary sausage left on the serving salver.
The host encouraged the diners to finish off the last sausage, but all
the guests were too polite to accept the sausage, even though they all
would have loved to have the last sausage. They were still busy
declining politely when there was a power cut and the lights went out.

In the darkness there was a terrible scream, and when the lights came
back on a terrible scene met the diners' eyes. The sausage on the
salver had a hand over it and in the hand were embedded 7 forks.

Who would have thought of putting cottage cheese on toast? One of my
sources credits American cookbook author and teacher James Beard with
this recipe, but if I were you I would take all the credit when your
family asks where this fabulous recipe came from.

Peach and Cottage Cheese Toast

1 cup (250 ml) low-fat cottage cheese
4 slices bread, toasted
1 peach, pitted and cut into 8 wedges
2 tsp (10 ml) sugar
1 tsp (5 ml) cinnamon

Spread the cottage cheese on the slices of toast. Place 2 wedges of
peach on each and sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon. Place under a
preheated broiler until the topping bubbles, 1 to 3 minutes. Serve
immediately. Serves 4.
