Here is reader Maureen White's version of the 1001 Arabian Nights:
This guy was walking along the beach one day and ran across a lamp
(my, my, what a surprise!). He picked it up a rubbed it and a genie
popped out (ooooh, another big surprise!). The genie told him he
would grant the man three wishes.
"First," the guy began, "I'd like a million dollars." POOF! A
million dollars was suddenly showing on his checkbook balance.
"Second," he continued, "I'd like a new Mercedes." POOF! A Mercedes
appeared right in front of him.
"Third," the guy smirked, "I'd like to be irresistible to women."
POOF! He turned into a box of chocolates.

Ginger is a natural complement to fresh fruit, as in this dish.
Canned pear halves may be used if fresh pears aren't available.
Ginger Pears
2 - 3 pears, peeled, halved, and cored
1/2 cup (125 ml) brown sugar
1 Tbs (15 ml) fresh lemon juice
1/2 tsp (2 ml) ground ginger
1/4 cup (60 ml) sliced almonds
Crystallized ginger, chopped, for garnish
Arrange the pear halves, cut side up, in a baking dish. In a small
bowl combine the brown sugar, lemon juice, ground ginger, and almonds.
Spoon over the pears. Add a little water to the bottom of the baking
dish and bake in a preheated 350F (180C) oven for 15 to 20 minutes,
until the pears are tender. Serve warm or chilled, garnished with
crystallized ginger. Serves 4 to 6.
