"Crimes Of Passion"*
*
A prospective juror in a Dallas District Court was
surprised by the definition of voluntary manslaughter given the panel:
"An intentional killing that occurs while the defendant
is under the immediate influence of sudden passion
arising from an adequate cause, such as when a
spouse's mate is found in a 'compromising position.'"
"See, I have a problem with that passion business,"
responded one jury candidate. "During my first marriage,
I came in and found my husband in bed with my neighbor.
All I did was divorce him. I had no idea that I could have shot him."
She wasn't selected for the jury.

"The Kindergarten Tour"*
*Katie was browsing in the library and a kindergarten
tour came through, led by a pretty, but weary looking young woman.
The children were well-behaved, with the exception
of a little boy named Anthony, who was constantly
shushed and scolded to no avail. And continued to
clomp noisily about, dropping books and generally making trouble.
When all the other children were lined up to leave,
the teacher had to go back and forcibly remove
Anthony from the water fountain. As she marched
him toward the door, Katie said sympathetically to
the teacher, "I bet you'll be glad to get him home."
She looked at Katie with a helpless little grin.
"Not really, he's mine."
