Ben Franklin's Sayings From Poor
        Richard's Almanac"
                Part II

Keep Conscience clear, then never fear.

Keep your eyes wide open before marriage,
half shut afterwards.

Little strokes fell great oaks.

Necessity has no law.

None preaches better than the ant, and she
says nothing.

Observe all men; thyself most.

One should eat to live, not live to eat.

Plough deep while sluggards sleep.

Quarrels never could last long, if on one side
only lay the wrong.

Rebellion against tyrants is obedience to
G~d.

Remember that credit is money.

Sin is not harmful because it is forbidden,
but it is forbidden because it is hurtful.

Sloth, like rust, consumes faster than labor
wears, while the used key is always bright.

Take time for all things: great haste makes
great waste.

That it is better 100 guilty Persons should
escape than that one innocent Person
should suffer, is a Maxim that has been
long and generally approved.

The longer I live, the more convincing proofs
I see of this truth, that G~d governs in the
affairs of man; and if a sparrow cannot fall
to the ground without his notice, is it probable
that an empire can rise without his aid?

The worst wheel of the cart makes the most
noise.

There is no little enemy.

There was never a good war, or a bad peace.

They that are on their guard and appear ready
to receive their adversaries, are in much less
danger of being attacked than the supine,
secure and negligent.

They who have nothing to trouble them, will
be troubled at nothing.

Those who would give up essential Liberty, to
purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve
neither Liberty nor Safety.

Three may keep a secret, if two of them are dead.

Time lost is never found again.

To err is human, to repent divine; to persist devilish.

Wealth is not his who has it but his who enjoys it.

Where liberty is, there is my country.

Who has deceiv'd thee so oft as thyself?
