FOOD FUNNY
_________________________________________________
Thanks to Rosemary Zwick for today's cautionary food funny:
A man was speeding down the highway, feeling secure in a
group of cars all traveling at the same speed. However, as
they passed a speed trap, he got nailed with an infrared
speed detector and was pulled over.
The officer handed him the citation, received his signature
and was about to walk away when the man asked, "Officer,
I know I was speeding, but I don't think it's fair - there were
plenty of other cars around me who were going just as fast,
so why did I get the ticket?"
"Ever go fishing?" the policeman suddenly asked the man.
"Um, yeah..." the startled man replied.
The officer grinned and added, "Did you ever catch all the fish?"

TODAY'S RECIPE
__________________________________________________
Just about anything with the word "toffee" in the title sounds
good to me, and my mother must feel the same way because
she chose to include this recipe in this week's cooky assortment.
Toffee Squares
1 cup (250 ml) butter
1 cup (250 ml) packed brown sugar
1 egg yolk
1 tsp (5 ml) vanilla extract
2 cups (500 ml) all-purpose flour
1/4 tsp (1 ml) salt
3 - 4 bars of milk chocolate (7/8 oz, 24.5 g each) separated into
individual squares
1/2 cup (125 ml) chopped nuts
Mix the butter, brown sugar, egg yolk, and vanilla until well
blended. Stir in the flour and salt until well blended. Spread into
a rectangle about 13 x 10 inches (33 x 25 cm) on a greased
baking sheet, leaving about 1 inch (2.5 cm) all around the edges
of the baking sheet. Bake in a preheated 350F (180C) oven
until browned, 20 to 25 minutes. The cookie will be soft. Remove
from the oven and immediately place the squares of chocolate
on top. Let stand until melted and spread evenly over the entire
surface. Sprinkle with chopped nuts and cut into small squares while
still warm.
Makes 6 to 7 dozen squares.
