FOOD FUNNY
_________________________________________________
Thanks to Thomas Pingenot for this timely food funny:
A man in Phoenix calls his son in New York two days before
Thanksgiving and says "I hate to ruin your day, but I have to
tell you that your mother and I are divorcing. Forty-five years
of misery is enough."
"Pop, what are you talking about?" the son demands.
"We can't stand the sight of each other any longer. We're
sick of each other, and I'm sick of talking about this, so you
call your sister in Chicago and tell her."
Frantic, the son calls his sister, who explodes on the phone.
"Like heck they're getting divorced," she shouts, "I'll take care of this."
She calls Phoenix immediately, and screams at her father,
"You are NOT getting divorced. Don't do a single thing until I
get there. I'm calling my brother back, and we'll both be there
tomorrow. Until then, don't do a thing, DO YOU HEAR ME?" and hangs up.
The old man hangs up his phone and turns to his wife. "Okay,"
he says, "they're coming for Thanksgiving and paying their own way."

TODAY'S RECIPE
__________________________________________________
Here is an elegant and tasty variation on the stuffed pepper theme.
Peppers Stuffed with Corn and Crab Meat
4-6 green or red bell peppers (capsicums), cored and seeded
2 1/2 cups (625 ml) canned, frozen, or fresh corn kernels
1 6-oz (170 g) can crab meat, drained and picked over
1 4-oz (115 g) jar pimientos, drained and chopped
1 egg
1/2 cup (125 ml) half-and-half or milk
1 Tbs (15 ml) melted butter
Salt and freshly ground pepper to taste
Cayenne pepper to taste (optional)
Steam or boil the peppers until almost tender, about 10 minutes.
Drain and set aside. Combine the corn, crab meat, and pimientos
in a pot over low heat. Whisk together the remaining ingredients
and add to the corn mixture. Cook over low heat, stirring
occasionally, until the mixture is hot and slightly thickened, about
15 minutes. Fill the peppers with the corn mixture and serve immediately.
Serves 4 to 6.
