             FOOD FUNNY

Here's a bounty of food wisdom from Rosemary Zwick:

A diet is a weigh of life.

It's not the minutes spent at the table that put on weight, it's the seconds.

It's something most of us do religiously: We eat what we want and pray we don't gain weight.

The problem with curbing our appetites is that most of us do it at the drive-in window of McDonalds.

The most fattening thing you can put in an ice cream sundae is a spoon.

Sweets are the destiny that shapes our ends.

Diets are for people who are thick and tired of it.

The toughest part of a diet isn't watching what you eat. It's watching what other people eat.

Diets are for women who not only kept their girlish figure but doubled it.

A diet is when you have to go to some length to change your width.
The best way to lose weight is by skipping... snacks and desert.

Most people gain weight by having intimate dinners for two... alone.

People go to Weight Watchers to learn their lessens.

A diet is the modern-day meal in which a family counts its calories instead of its blessings.

A diet is what you go on when not only can't you fit into the store's
dresses, you can't fit into the dressing room.

One guideline applies to fat and thin people alike: If you're thin,
don't eat fast. If you're fat, don't eat - FAST.

             TODAY'S RECIPE
__________________________________________________

This dish is usually battered and fried when encountered in Chinese
restaurants in the USA, but this version is lighter, healthier, and less time consuming.

Lemon Chicken

3 lbs (1.5 kg) chicken pieces
2 Tbs (30 ml) soy sauce
The zest of 1 lemon, finely chopped
1/3 cup (80 ml) lemon juice
1 cup (250 ml) water
1 Tbs (15 ml) sugar
1 Tbs (15 ml) finely chopped fresh ginger
1 tsp (5 ml) sesame oil
1 tsp (5 ml) cornstarch (cornflour) mixed with
1 Tbs (15 ml) water
Lemon slices and chopped scallions (spring onions) for garnish

Rub the chicken pieces with 1 tablespoon (15 ml) of the soy sauce and
set aside. Combine the remaining tablespoon of soy sauce, lemon zest,
lemon juice, water, and sugar in a small bowl, stirring to dissolve the
sugar. Heat the sesame oil in a wok or large, heavy skillet over high
heat. Brown the chicken pieces on all sides. Add the ginger and cook for
1 minute. Add the lemon mixture and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to
very low and simmer the chicken covered for 20 minutes. Remove the
chicken to a warm platter and add the cornflour mixture to the pan. Stir
the mixture until it boils and has thickened. Spoon over the chicken
pieces and garnish with lemon slices and chopped scallions.
Serves 4 to 6.
