A young couple invited their aged pastor to their home for Sunday
dinner. While they were in the kitchen preparing the meal, the minister
asked their young son what they were having. "Goat", replied the little boy.

"Goat?" replied the startled man of the cloth. "Are you sure about that?"

"Yep," said the youngster. "I heard Pa say to Ma, might as well have the
old goat for dinner today as any other day."

You don't have to wait until winter to enjoy this tangy side dish.

Winter Vegetables in Balsamic Vinegar

4 - 6 medium potatoes, peeled and cut into 2-inch (5 cm) chunks
3 large carrots, cut into 2-inch (5 cm) pieces
2 large turnips, peeled and cut into 2-inch (5 cm) chunks
2 medium onions, quartered
1 cup (250 ml) chicken or vegetable stock
1/4 cup (60 ml) balsamic vinegar
Salt and freshly ground pepper to taste

Combine the vegetables in a pot. Combine the remaining ingredients in a
bowl and pour over the vegetables. Bring to a boil over moderate heat.
Reduce the heat and simmer covered until the vegetables are tender, 30 to 45 minutes.
Serves 4 to 6.
