Thanks to Anna Welander for this one:

Young Larry stopped by the corner grocery store and read the following
list to the clerk: 10 pounds sugar at $1.25 a pound; 4 pounds coffee at
$1.50 a pound; 2 pounds butter at $1.10 a pound; 2 bars soap at $. 83
each. "How much does that come to?" asked Larry.

"Twenty-two dollars and thirty-six cents."

"If I gave you three ten dollar bills, how much change would I get?" said the boy.

"Seven dollars and sixty-four cents," stated the clerk who appeared to
be irritated by all the questions.

Larry said, as he disappeared through the door, "I don't want to buy the
items. That's our arithmetic lesson for tomorrow, and I needed some help with it."

             TODAY'S RECIPE

Some people believe that crisp bacon is the most delicious thing in the
world, and I have to confess that sometimes I agree. So how could you
possibly improve on it? Here's one way.

Breaded Bacon

12 thick slices bacon
1 egg
1 Tbs (15 ml) water
1 tsp (5 ml) Dijon mustard
1 tsp (5 ml) Worcestershire sauce
About 1 cup (250 ml) dry bread crumbs

Place the bacon in a single layer on a baking sheet and bake in a
preheated 400F (200C) oven for 10 minutes. Drain off and discard the
fat. Whisk together the egg, water, mustard, and Worcestershire sauce in
a shallow bowl and place the bread crumbs on a plate. Dip the bacon into
the egg mixture and then coat with bread crumbs. Return to the baking
sheet and continue baking until crisp, about 15 minutes.
Drain on paper towels and serve immediately.
Serves 4 to 6.
