I bet something similar to this has actually happened somewhere,
sometime. Thanks to Anna Welander for sending it in.

A man was arrested for driving while intoxicated. When brought
to jail the booking clerk asked the standard questions - name,
address, phone number and so on. "Lastly," said the clerk, "who
should we call in case of emergency?" Grinning and reeking of
bourbon, the drunk slurred, "911."

            TODAY'S RECIPE

Corn (maize to my British readers) figures prominently in the
cooking of South Africa, where it is often called mealie. This is
how they make it into a rich - and easy - soup.

Mealie Soup

2 Tbs (30 ml) butter
1 onion, finely chopped
2 tomatoes, chopped
3 cups (750 ml) chicken stock
1 15-oz (425 g) can whole corn, drained
1 15-oz (425 g) can creamed corn
1 5-oz (140 g) can evaporated milk
Salt and freshly ground pepper to taste

Heat the butter in a pot over moderate heat and saute the onion
until tender but not brown, about 5 minutes. Add the tomatoes
and cook for 5 minutes. Add the remaining ingredients and bring
to a boil. Reduce the heat and simmer for 10 minutes. Serves 4
to 6.
