Here's one in honor of St. Patrick's Day from Pat Woods in
Brisbane, Australia:

After their only son was jailed for his part in a huge robbery, an
old Irish couple lived alone in their remote cottage. One day,
old Mick wrote sadly to his son: "Dear Sean, I can't dig much
of the garden for the potatoes all by myself this year, but your
dear mother will help and we might manage to plant enough for
just the two of us."

"Dear Dad," came the reply, "For heaven's sake, don't dig the
garden up, that's where I buried all the money!"

At 3 A.M. the next day a dozen police turned up. They dug the
garden for three hours before leaving in disgust without finding
anything. That week, the puzzled old man visited Sean in prison
and told him of the raid. "What should I do now, son?" he asked.

"Plant your potatoes, Dad," said Sean, "Just plant your potatoes."

            TODAY'S RECIPE
__________________________________________________

This pie, a tradition in Virginia and the Carolinas, is similar to
pecan pie except that some people think it's even better. You
decide.

Peanut Pie

3 eggs, lightly beaten
1 1/2 cups (375 ml) corn syrup
1/2 cup (125 ml) sugar
4 Tbs (60 ml) butter, melted
1/2 tsp (2 ml) vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups (375 ml) chopped salted roasted peanuts
A 9-inch (23 cm) deep-dish pie shell

Combine the eggs, corn syrup, sugar, butter, and vanilla extract
in a bowl, stirring to combine thoroughly. Stir in the peanuts
and pour into the pie shell. Bake in a preheated 375F (190C)
oven until the filling is set, 50 to 55 minutes. Allow to cool to
room temperature before serving. Serves 6 to 8.
