            FOOD FUNNY

Thanks to Marlene Steinberg of Marina del Rey, CA for passing
this along:

This is a story passed on by an acquaintance of mine. Many years
ago during the fondue craze (the seventies) my friend's brother
and sister-in-law invited him for dinner. He had just been discharged
from the Army and was used to eating mass quantities of food.
Fondue, which he had never had, was being served. It was bread
dipped in a pot of melted cheese using long forks, and he copied
everyone else on the way to eat it. After they had enjoyed the fondue,
he complimented his sister-in-law and then innocently asked,
"What's for dinner?" By the horrified look on her face, he realized
that WAS dinner. There was no graceful way out for him.

            TODAY'S RECIPE

Don't forget dessert at your next cookout. This dish can be
assembled before you light the fire, and you can let it cook
while you're enjoying your steak.

Baked Apples and Cranberries

2 - 3 Granny Smith apples, cored and sliced
1/2 cup (125 ml) dried cranberries
1/4 cup (60 ml) pure maple syrup
1 Tbs (15 ml) brown sugar
1/2 tsp (2 ml) ground cinnamon
3 Tbs (45 ml) butter, cut into pieces

Toss the apple slices, cranberries, maple syrup, brown sugar,
and cinnamon in a bowl to combine well. Place the mixture onto
a large piece of aluminum foil, or divide among smaller pieces
of foil, and dot with butter. Wrap the mixture tightly in the foil
and cook directly over hot coals for about 10 minutes. Serves
4 to 6.
