            FOOD FUNNY

Thanks to Susan Mompalao de Piro on the island of Malta for sharing
this true food funny with us:

Some years ago I was living on a sailing yacht in the Mediterranean.
Preparing supper, I set the water to boil and took out a packet of
spaghetti. When I opened it a cloud of moths flew out. I emptied the
spaghetti into the sea, and got the next packet, which I wisely opened
on the deck. This too was infested, and so was all our store of spaghetti.
The fish were thrilled as our yacht sat in the middle of a widening circle
of spaghetti. From a neighbouring yacht an Italian called out, "We cook
our spaghetti differently in Italy." I explained my dilemma. Next thing
I knew a dinghy rowed up alongside and the crew handed me a kilo of
spaghetti, and our meal was saved.

            TODAY'S RECIPE

The "forget about" part of the name refers to the fact that the cookies
are left overnight in an oven that has been preheated and then turned
off. Once you taste these crunchy, chewy little delights I doubt you'll
forget them.

Forget About Cookies

2 eggs whites, beaten until stiff
2/3 cup (160 ml) sugar
1/4 tsp (1 ml) salt
1 cup (250 ml) semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup (125 ml) chopped walnuts, pecans, or
nuts of your choice

Add the sugar to the beaten egg whites gradually, beating constantly.
Add the salt. Fold in the chocolate chips and chopped nuts. Drop by
tablespoonfuls (15 ml) onto lightly greased baking sheets - they will
not spread, so can be placed close together. Put in a preheated 350F
(180C) oven and immediately turn the oven off. Let the cookies sit in
the oven overnight. Makes about 2 dozen.
