Thanks to Harriet St. Amant for this true (?) food funny:

A man and his wife were getting a divorce at a local court, but the
custody of their children posed a problem. The mother jumped to her
feet and protested to the judge that since she had brought the
children into this world, she should retain custody of them. The
father also wanted custody of his children. The judge asked for his
side of the story, too. After a long moment of silence, the man rose
from the chair and replied, "Judge, when I put a dollar into a vending
machine, and a Pepsi comes out, does the Pepsi belong to me or to the
machine?"

These carrot sticks make a colorful and tasty addition to a salad
plate or can be eaten out of hand for a healthy snack.

Pickled Carrot Sticks

1 lb (450 g) carrots, peeled and cut into sticks
3/4 cup (180 ml) water
3/4 cup (180 ml) cider vinegar
1/2 cup (125 ml) sugar
1 tsp (5 ml) mixed pickling spices

Boil the carrots in salted water for 10 minutes. Meanwhile, combine
the remaining ingredients in a separate pot and boil for 3 minutes.
Drain the carrot sticks and pack them into sterilized jars. Cover
with the hot liquid, seal the jars, and process in a boiling water
bath for 15 minutes. Makes about 1 quart (1 L).
