FOOD FUNNY
__________________________________________________
I have published variations on this food funny in the past, but who
cares - it's a classic, and I'm glad Kevin LeCaon of New York City
sent it in to us.
A couple in their golden years was sitting on their front porch taking
in the beauty of the day when the man turned to the woman and says,
"You know what sounds good right about now, Ma? Some vanilla ice
cream."
"Oh, Yes!" the woman replied, "With chocolate sauce and a cherry on
top."
Getting up the man said; "Well, I'll just go on down to the store and
get us some."
"Now, Pa." she reminded him. "You know how your memory is. Make
sure you write it down so you don't forget."
"Aw, I won't forget." He said; "My memory is as good as a 20 year
olds."
About 15 minutes later he returns holding two hot dogs and hands one
to the woman. The woman looks at the hot dog and says, "See, Pa, I
told you to write it down so you wouldn't forget. I wanted mine with
mustard."

TODAY'S RECIPE
__________________________________________________
Here is a nice, light dessert from a region not particularly noted for
nice, light desserts. Feel free to top it with chocolate sauce,
honey, or warm fruit preserves.
Cottage Cheese Souffle (Quarkenflauf)
1 lb (450 g) cottage cheese
1/2 cup (125 ml) sugar
3 Tbs (45 ml) all-purpose flour
3 egg yolks
1/2 cup (125 ml) raisins
Grated rind of 1 lemon
A pinch of salt
4 egg whites, stiffly beaten
Butter and sugar for preparing the baking dish
Combine the cottage cheese, sugar, flour, and egg yolks in an electric
blender or food processor and process until smooth. Stir in the
raisins, lemon zest, and salt. Fold in the beaten egg whites and pour
into a souffle dish that has been buttered and coated with sugar on
the inside. Bake in a preheated 450F (220C) oven until the souffle
has risen and the top is golden brown, 35 to 45 minutes. Serve
immediately. Serves 4 to 6.
