FOOD FUNNY

Thanks to Alan Withee for this too-true-to-be-true food funny:
A family had moved to Seattle from Texas, and each of them missed
their old home. That December, when they went to pick up their
first-grade son from school, his teacher told them about a
conversation she overheard.
One boy said, "We're Catholic, and we are going to Christmas Mass."
"Were Jewish," said another child. "And we're going to have a
Hanukkah celebration.
Madison chimed in, "We're Texans, and were going to have a barbecue."

Here is a distinctive way to use up your leftover turkey by combining
it with the flavors of the sunny Caribbean.
Caribbean Turkey Soup
4 cups (1 L) turkey or chicken stock
1-2 cups (250-500 ml) chopped cooked turkey
1 cup (250 ml) orange juice
1 large sweet potato, peeled and diced
1 medium onion, chopped
1 green bell pepper, cored, seeded, and diced
1 tsp (5 ml) cider vinegar
1/2 tsp (2 ml) dried thyme
1/4 tsp (1 ml) ground ginger
1/4 tsp (1 ml) ground allspice
1/4 tsp (1 ml) freshly grated nutmeg
Salt and freshly ground pepper to taste
Chopped cilantro (coriander leaves) for garnish
Lime wedges for garnish
Combine all ingredients in a large pot and bring to a boil over high
heat. Reduce the heat to low and simmer covered until the vegetables
are tender, about 20 minutes. Garnish with chopped cilantro and serve
with lime wedges. Serves 4 to 6.
