FOOD FUNNY

Thanks to RecitoPLUSian Kathy Roaleen for this adorable true food
funny:
I was grocery shopping last week accompanied by my lovely 2 1/2 year
old grandson, Cole. I noticed the cantaloupe was on sale and I picked
up one and sniffed it for that wonderful perfume that tells you if you
have a good melon. It had a faint fragrance, and I picked up another
couple of them to sniff, too. At that point Cole said, "Tin I tiss it
too, Dramma?" (translated, Can I kiss it too, Grandma?) I explained
to him the fine art of sniffing melons, and we picked them out
together. No little foodie is too young to learn!

TODAY'S RECIPE
__________________________________________________
I won't tell you how partial I am to fresh fruit as a dessert again
because, frankly, even I am getting tired of hearing it. Here is a
simple and easy dessert that everyone will love.
Sauteed Figs with Almonds (Figues Sautes Amandine)
2 Tbs (30 ml) butter
12 ripe fresh figs, halved lengthwise
1/4 cup (60 ml) brown sugar
1 cup (250 ml) slivered blanched almonds, toasted
Heavy cream for garnish (optional)
Melt the butter in a large skillet over high heat. Add the fig halves
and sprinkle with brown sugar. Saute, turning the figs gently, until
warmed through, about 4 minutes. Sprinkle with toasted almonds and
garnish with heavy cream if desired. Serves 4 to 6.
