FOOD FUNNY
__________________________________________________
Thanks to reader Arlene for this, which I can assure you is not a true
food funny:
A guy was sitting in an airplane when another guy took the seat beside
him. The new guy was a wreck, pale, hands shaking, biting his nails
and moaning in fear. "Hey, pal, what's the matter?" said the first
guy.
"I've been transferred to Los Angeles, California," he answered
nervously. "They've got race riots, drugs, the highest crime rate in
the country..."
"Hold on," said the first. "I've lived in L.A all my life, and it's
not as bad as the media says. Find a nice home, go to work, mind your
own business, enroll your kids in a good school, and it's as safe as
anywhere in the world."
The second guy stopped shaking for a moment and said, "Oh, thank
goodness. I was worried to death! But if you live there and say it's
OK, I'll take your word for it. By the way, what do you do for a
living?"
"Me?" said the first, "I'm a tail gunner on a bread truck."

TODAY'S RECIPE
__________________________________________________
Every time I tell you folks what I cooked my mother for her Mother's
Day dinner I am overwhelmed by requests for the recipes, so this year
I decided to beat you to the punch. As always, my mother gets
anything she wants for dinner on this special day, and this is the
menu she requested this year:
Monday's Starter
Crostini with Gorgonzola and Honey
Tuesday's Soup or Salad
Cream of Sorrel Soup
Wednesday's Side Dish
Creamed Peas and Onions
Thursday's Entree
Frog's Legs Persille
Friday's Dessert
Nanaimo Bars
This has been such a long-standing favorite in our family that not
only has my mother requested it on previous special occasions, but I
have already published the recipe as well. Like all really great
things, it bears repeating. The honey makes a surprising contrast to
the tangy cheese in this recipe. Make these once and I'm sure you'll
make them often.
Crostini with Gorgonzola and Honey
French bread (baguette)
Gorgonzola cheese, crumbled
Honey
Slice the bread diagonally, place the slices on a baking sheet and
toast both sides under a preheated broiler. Sprinkle with the
Gorgonzola and drizzle with a little honey. Place under the broiler
and cook just until the cheese begins to melt, 1 to 2 minutes. Serve
immediately.
