I know this is a repeat, but it's just so darned cute. Thank to Gail
Norris for sending it to us.
A man observed a woman in the grocery store with a three-year-old girl
in her basket. As they passed the cookie section, the child asked for
cookies and her mother told her "no." The little girl immediately
began to whine and fuss, and the mother said quietly, "Now Ellen, we
just have half of the aisles left to go through; don't be upset. It
won't be long."
He passed the mother again in the candy aisle. Of course, the little
girl began to shout for candy. When she was told she couldn't have
any, she began to cry. The mother said, "There, there, Ellen, don't
cry. Only two more aisles to go, and then we'll be checking out."
The man again happened to be behind the pair at the check-out, where
the little girl immediately began to clamor for gum and burst into a
terrible tantrum upon discovering there would be no gum purchased
today. The mother patiently said, "Ellen, we'll be through this check
out stand in five minutes, and then you can go home and have a nice
nap."
The man followed them out to the parking lot and stopped the woman to
compliment her. "I couldn't help noticing how patient you were with
little Ellen..."
The mother broke in, "My little girl's name is Tammy. I'm Ellen."

TODAY'S RECIPE
__________________________________________________
It has been over two and a half years now, but some readers might
remember that I used to publish "Extra" recipes on Sundays back in the
days when I published seven days a week. It was a handy little
category that I used for miscellaneous things like condiments, sauces,
breads, and beverages. I revive the category once again in order to
present a small collection of cool beverages I like to call "Summer
Thirst Quenchers." Here is the lineup:
Monday's "Extra"
Old-Fashioned Strawberry Milkshake
Tuesday's "Extra"
Lime Rickey
Wednesday's "Extra"
Tropical Punch
Thursday's "Extra"
Classic Egg Cream
Friday's "Extra"
Lager 'N' Lime
Here is a milkshake like they used to make when ice cream was
considered an extravagant luxury. Feel free to add rum, brandy, or
vodka to taste for an adult summertime cooler.
Old-Fashioned Strawberry Milkshake
For each drink:
4 oz (110 g) fresh strawberries, stems removed
1 cup (250 ml) crushed ice
1 cup (250 ml) milk
1 Tbs (15 ml) honey or brown sugar
Combine all ingredients in an electric blender and blend until smooth.
Serves 1.
