FOOD FUNNY

Thanks to Peg W. of Meridian, Idaho for this true tale:
Last Sunday morning my dear husband wanted to make breakfast for me so
he looked up apple pancakes in the "Joy of Cooking" cookbook. I
didn't want to interfere but I started smelling burnt pancakes, so I
went into the kitchen. The stove was on HIGH, the grill was smoking
and the pancakes were burning. I mentioned that I thought that the
stove temp was a bit too high. He said that the cookbook said to heat
the grill to 749 degrees.
This did not make sense to me! I've never seen any recipe with a temp
that high, so I asked where he got the recipe and looked it up. The
cookbook gave instructions on how to heat the grill on one page and
the recipe is on the next page. The book referred to the previous
page 749 for the grill instructions. You can see where I'm going with
this line of thought I'm sure.
I mentioned about the instructions and asked him to please turn down
the heat. He looked meek and did as I asked him. I now have to buy a
new Teflon pan. BUT the rest of the pancakes were just great! This
Sunday we went out to breakfast... his idea.

TODAY'S RECIPE
__________________________________________________
Today's recipe is about as easy as they come, leaving the grill cook
plenty of time to socialize while sipping a favorite beverage.
Grilled Potatoes and Mushrooms
6-8 small potatoes, cut into 1/2-inch (1 cm) slices
1 lb (450 g) button mushroom caps, stems removed
1-3 cloves garlic, finely chopped
1/3 cup (80 ml) olive oil
1/4 cup (60 ml) chopped fresh thyme
1 tsp (5 ml) paprika
Salt and freshly ground pepper to taste
Toss all ingredients in a mixing bowl to combine thoroughly. Grill
over hot coals until tender and golden brown, turning once halfway
through cooking. The potatoes will take about 8 minutes per side, the
mushrooms about 5 minutes per side. Serves 4 to 6.
