FOOD FUNNY
__________________________________________________
Thanks to reader Bill 1 for this true food funny:
Years ago while visiting my parents in another city, they took me to
dinner in a then-new hotel downtown. After we were seated, the
thirty-ish waiter approached, greeted us, and called my dad by name.
Dad failed to recognize him, so inquired who he was. It turned out he
had been a student in the elementary school where Dad was principal.
Some of the small talk revealed the waiter had completed a degree in
theater and was expecting a call to appear in a production in Chicago,
but was waiting tables in the meantime. When asked how he had gotten
the job, the waiter said that during his interview he was asked if he
had any experience as a waiter. His job-winning reply was, "No, but I
can act like one!"

TODAY'S RECIPE
__________________________________________________
Here is a quick and easy dish that appeals to the eye as much as to
the taste buds.
Cherry Tomatoes with Pecans
3 Tbs (45 ml) extra-virgin olive oil
1 clove garlic, finely chopped
2 cups (500 ml) cherry tomatoes, stemmed
1/4 cup (60 ml) coarsely chopped pecans or walnuts
2 Tbs (30 ml) red wine vinegar
Salt and freshly ground pepper to taste
Chopped fresh basil for garnish
Heat the oil in a skillet over moderate heat. Add the garlic and
tomatoes and saute just until the tomatoes are warmed through, about 3
minutes. Add the pecans, vinegar, salt, and pepper and stir for 1
minute. Garnish with chopped basil. Serves 4 to 6.
