Here's a classic food funny from reader Leticia Davies:

While on a car trip, an elderly couple stopped at a roadside
restaurant for lunch. After finishing their meal, the elderly woman
left her glasses on the table, but she didn't miss them until they
were back on the highway. By then, they had to travel quite a
distance before they could find a place to turn around.

The elderly man fussed and complained all the way back to the
restaurant. He called his wife every bad name he could think of.
When they finally arrived at the restaurant, and the woman got out of
the car to retrieve her glasses, the man yelled to her, "And while
you're in there, you might as well get my hat, too."

I conclude this week's trip around the "World of Appetizers" right
here in my own back yard. These savory shortbread treats are great
fresh out of the oven, but they will keep for up to two weeks so they
make a welcome holiday gift.

Southern Cheese Balls

1/2 lb (225 g) butter
2 1/2 cup (625 ml) all-purpose flour
2 cups (500 ml) grated sharp Cheddar cheese
1 cup (250 ml) chopped pecans or walnuts
2 tsp (10 ml) salt
1/2 tsp (2 ml) cayenne pepper, or to taste

Mix all ingredients well and form into small balls about 3/4 inch (2
cm) in diameter. Place on a baking sheet and flatten slightly with
the tines of a fork. Bake in a preheated 350F (180C) oven for 15
minutes. Transfer to paper towels to cool. Serves 15 to 20 as a
cocktail snack.
