Thanks to reader Jolene Miller of Toledo, Ohio for this true food
funny:
The lion food funny reminded me of a true experience I had at the
Cleveland Metroparks Zoo. I was walking with a friend past the lion
exhibit, where a kindergarten teacher was talking to her class about
the lions."Yesterday, we talked about how lions live in groups. What
are those groups called?"
The kids yelled, "Prides!"
Pointing to the lion closest to the observation window, she asked,
"Why does this lion not have a mane?"
The kids yelled, "It's a female!"
"Who does most of the hunting for the pride?"
"The female!"
"Why is that?"
There was silence from the class. Finally, one student piped up from
the back. "So she can cook it?"

In addition to being eaten on their own, stewed prunes and other
fruits are often spooned on porridge (oatmeal) as the first course of
an English breakfast.
Stewed Prunes
1/2 lb (250 g) dried prunes
2 Tbs (30 ml) sugar
1/2 cup (125 ml) dry sherry or port wine
1 tsp (5 ml) grated lemon peel
Place the prunes in a saucepan and add enough water to cover. Bring
to a boil over moderate heat and simmer covered for 20 minutes. Add
the remaining ingredients and simmer 10 minutes. Serve chilled.
Serves 4 to 6.
