Here's one of the best true food funnies ever, thanks to reader Karen
Jankel from England:
A number of years ago I was having dinner with friends in a very
quaint restaurant on the Channel Island of Jersey. I rather fancied
the escargots to start with, but when I placed my order I was told
that they'd been taken off the menu. Disappointed, I asked the
reason. "Well, you see, Madam," replied the waiter, "some items are
less popular than others and we found that particular dish tended to
move rather slowly."

You may serve this coffee with dessert, but you might find that it
makes a satisfying dessert all by itself.
Cafe Continental
4 cups (1 L) strong hot coffee
1/2 cup (125 ml) sherry
1 Tbs (15 ml) brown sugar, or to taste
1 tsp (5 ml) powdered ginger
1/2 tsp (2 ml) ground coriander
Orange slices for garnish (optional)
Combine the coffee, sherry, sugar, ginger and coriander, stirring to
dissolve the sugar. Pour into mugs and serve garnished with a slice
of orange if desired. Serves 4.
