::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: FOOD FUNNY :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Faithful reader and frequent contributor Kaye Noble says, "Perhaps
this is a food groaner rather than a food funny." Right you are,
Kaye.
A man goes into a bar very thirsty. He sits down waiting for the
bartender to see him. The man next to him calls for the
bartender saying, "I'll have another waterloo." The bartender
gives him a tall ice cold drink, then asks the newcomer what
he would like to drink.
Wanting to try this new drink he says "I'll have a waterloo too."
The bartender gives him a tall ice cold drink. He takes a big
drink and says "HEY! This isn't any good. It tastes just like
water!"
The man next to him looks at the bartender and says "Well, it
is water...right Lou?
::::::::::::::::::::::::::: TODAY'S RECIPE ::::::::::::::::::::::::::
This week we cook to beat the clock, and I have put together a menu of
dishes that can all be cooked in 15 minutes or less. OK, so some of
the dishes may take a little bit longer if you take into account the
time to preheat the oven or boil the water, but you get the idea
anyway.
This Mediterranean treat can actually be made in less than five
minutes with the aid of an electric food processor, but even if you
chop the ingredients by hand you should still have a few minutes left
from the fifteen minutes I promised.
Quick Tapenade
1 cup (250 ml) ripe olives, pitted
4 cloves garlic, peeled and coarsely chopped
2 Tbs (30 ml) capers
6 Tbs (90 ml) extra-virgin olive oil
1 tsp (5 ml) each dried thyme, rosemary, and oregano
1 tsp (5 ml) anchovy paste, or 2 anchovy fillets, rinsed
Salt and freshly ground pepper to taste
Cayenne pepper to taste (optional)
Combine all the ingredients in a food processor and process until well
chopped but still in individual pieces. Alternately, finely chop the
olives, garlic, and capers, and combine in a small bowl with the
remaining ingredients. Serve chilled or at room temperature with
toasted slices of French bread or crackers. Will keep refrigerated
for several weeks. Serves 4 to 6 as an appetizer.
