Reader Ruth Nimmo sent us this true food funny:

My grandfather was a preacher. One Sunday my family went to their
home for dinner. It was their practice to always turn the plates
upside down until after the blessing was said. This particular time,
my grandfather and grandmother had been in an argument, so, being mad,
my Grandfather just turned his plate over and began filling it. My
brother, who was two at the time, said "Dagad,"(his name for my
grandfather, he was trying to say Grandad) "You forgot to talk to your
plate."

It's time for another trip around the world with World Wide Recipes.

This classic Austrian cheese spread is traditionally served with rye
or pumpernickel bread, but you might update it by serving raw
vegetables to dip.

Liptauer Cheese

8 oz (250 g) cream cheese, at room temperature
3 Tbs (45 ml) finely chopped onion
1 Tbs (15 ml) anchovy paste or finely chopped anchovies
1 Tbs (15 ml) finely chopped capers
1/2 tsp (2 ml) caraway seeds
1/2 tsp (2 ml) paprika

Combine all ingredients in a bowl and stir with a wooden spoon until
thoroughly combined. Serve with rye or pumpernickel bread, crackers,
or fresh vegetables. Makes about 1 cup (250 ml) to serve 6 to 8 as an
appetizer.
