Here's a little fractured food history from reader Denise:
It's a little known fact that Julius Caesar did NOT die from stab
wounds by Brutus, but rather he was poisoned. At the huge banquet on
that fateful Ides of March, Brutus slipped some poisonous hemlock
leaves into Julius' salad. (This was the world's first Caesar salad!)
When Julius slumped over into his salad, Brutus feigned concern and
asked, "My dear friend Julius, how many hemlock leaves have you
eaten?"
To which Julius gasped in reply, "Ate two, Brutus."

The name of today's recipe means simply "stuffed tomatoes" in Mexico.
Serve these up for a cold luncheon buffet, or pack them along on your
next picnic.
Jitomates Rellenos
4 - 6 medium tomatoes
Salt
2 - 3 large avocados, peeled and mashed
2 scallions (spring onions), white and green parts, finely chopped
3 Tbs (45 ml) chopped cilantro (coriander leaves)
2 - 3 canned serrano chilies, chopped
Juice of 1 lime
Salt and freshly ground pepper to taste
Cut a slice off the top of each tomato and scoop out the insides using
a spoon. Sprinkle the insides with salt and place upside down on
paper towels to drain for 15 minutes. Combine the remaining
ingredients and stuff into the tomato shells. Serve chilled or at
room temperature. Serves 4 to 6.
