Thanks to reader Charmaine of Holt, Michigan for this food funny:

A family is preparing for their dinner party and everyone is busy.
Mom has assigned the task of setting the table to little Susie. After
the little girl says she is done, she notices that the place for Mr.
Brown has no silverware at it, and asks Susie why she left his spot
bare of flatware. Susie looks up at mom, and tells her that he
doesn't need any, and when Mom asks why not?, Susie replies, "Well, I
heard you telling Daddy that Mr. Brown eats like a horse, so why would
he need silverware?"

As a kid growing up in the United States this was my hands down
favorite salad dressing, and I remember being shocked to learn that it
is unknown to the rest of the world. The origin of the name is not
known, the best guess being that the lumps in the dressing resemble
little islands. For a truly classic American salad, serve this over a
plain wedge of crisp, cold iceberg lettuce.

Thousand Island Salad Dressing

1 cup (250 ml) mayonnaise
1/4 cup (60 ml) chili sauce or ketchup
1/4 cup (60 ml) finely chopped pimiento-stuffed green olives
2 Tbs (30 ml) finely chopped green bell pepper (capsicum)
1 Tbs (15 ml) finely chopped onion or scallion (spring onion)
1 hard-boiled egg, peeled and finely chopped
Cayenne pepper or hot pepper sauce to taste (optional)

Combine all ingredients and refrigerate for at least 1 hour. Serve
over fresh salad greens. Will keep refrigerated for up to 1 week.
Makes about 2 cups (500 ml) to serve 6 to 8.
