::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: FOOD FUNNY :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Here's a funny one from reader Rosemary Zwick from South Africa:
An elderly fellow told his doctor: "I'm worried about my wife. I
think her hearing is failing. Is there any simple check to see
whether this is so?'
"No problem" said the doctor. "When she has her back to you, stand
about 10 feet away and ask her a question. If she doesn't answer,
take a few steps closer and repeat it. Do this until she can hear you
and let me know the result.'
Next day while the wife was in the kitchen, the husband took up his
position behind her.
"Honey," he said quietly, "what's for dinner?" No reply. He stepped
closer. "Honey, what's for dinner?" Again no reply, so he stepped
even closer. "Honey, what's for dinner?" Finally, from just behind
her he asked; "Honey, what's for dinner?" She spun around and
snapped: "Oh for Pete's sake! For the fourth time, I SAID CHICKEN!"
::::::::::::::::::::::::::: TODAY'S RECIPE ::::::::::::::::::::::::::
We continue the Low-fat Vegetarian theme with this refreshing and
unusual soup. Cold fruit soups are a tradition in Scandinavia, where
they may be served as a soup course or for dessert. Be sure to use
only the ripest of melons for best results.
Spiced Melon Soup
4 cups (1 L) peeled, seeded, and cubed
cantaloupe (muskmelon)
1/4 cup (60 ml) orange juice
1/4 cup (60 ml) lime or lemon juice
2 Tbs (30 ml) honey
1/2 cup non-fat milk
1/2 tsp (2 ml) ground cardamom
A grating of fresh nutmeg
Thin slices of lemon or lime for garnish
Combine all ingredients in an electric food processor or blender and
process until smooth, adding a little more milk if necessary to adjust
the consistency. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours. Serve chilled
with a slice of lemon or lime floating in the center. Serves 4.
