:::::::::::::::::::::::::::: FOOD FUNNY :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Reader Veta Howard of Marlow, Oklahoma sent us this true food funny:
My food funny is from my lovely granddaughter Emily, who is now four
years old. When she was 2 1/2 she was in the kitchen watching her
mother cook and decided to check out the canned food in the cabinet in
front of her. As she looked she named each one by the vegetable or
fruit she saw on the can: green beans, peaches, and noses. "Noses"
she said "oh yuck, why would anyone eat noses?" she asked her mom.
When her mom looked it was a can of sliced mushrooms, which if you
look at an adult nose from a kid's point of view is shaped a lot like
a sliced mushroom.
::::::::::::::::::::::::::: TODAY'S RECIPE ::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Today's recipe is a reminder as to how easy it is to dress up a
vegetable. You could use this same technique in preparing squash,
cauliflower, green beans, Brussels sprouts, or asparagus.
Italian Sauteed Broccoli
1 lb (500 g) fresh broccoli
3 Tbs (45 ml) extra virgin olive oil
2 cloves garlic, peeled and finely chopped
1 tsp (5 ml) balsamic vinegar or lemon juice
Salt and freshly ground pepper to taste
Cut the broccoli into individual florets and peel away any tough skin.
Boil in enough salted water to cover until tender but firm. Drain.
Heat the oil in a skillet over moderate heat and saute the garlic
until light brown. Add the broccoli and saute for 5 minutes, stirring
frequently. Season with the vinegar or lemon juice, salt, and pepper.
Serves 4 to 6.
