::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: FOOD FUNNY :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Thanks to reader "Big Jim" for this true food funny.

I have this dear sweet lady friend , who must be about 80 some years
and she got this good biscuit recipe from her sister-in-law just after
she got married some 55 years ago. She asked her sister-in-law how
she made them, she replied from scratch. So she went to the general
store and told the grocer that she wanted 2 pounds of scratch. The
man at the store thought she was crazy until he found out what she was
talking about, and then got a good laugh out of it.

::::::::::::::::::::::::::: TODAY'S RECIPE ::::::::::::::::::::::::::

This recipe can be made using ripe cantaloupe or honeydew melon, but
papaya gives it a true taste of the tropics.

Papaya Fritters

1 cup (250 ml) all-purpose flour
1/2 cup (125 ml) milk
1 egg, beaten
2 Tbs (30 ml) sugar
A grating of fresh nutmeg
2 cups (500 ml) papaya, peeled and cubed
Oil for frying
Powdered (confectioner's) sugar

Combine the flour, milk, egg, sugar, and nutmeg and stir until smooth.
Add the cubed papaya and toss to coat. Drop by spoonfuls into hot oil
and cook until golden brown. Turn and brown the other side. Drain on
paper towels and dust with powdered sugar. Serves 4 to 6.
