Thanks to reader Daniel Kite who says "You could see this one coming,
but it's a hoot anyway."
Once there was a man named Joe who drove a bus in New York City. The
name of his bus was the Sesame Street Bus. Every day Joe would pick
up the same passengers. First to get on were two twin ladies, both
named Patti. They were both very large women. Next was a man named
Ross, who was a very special person. After Ross came Lester Cheese.
He would always sit in the back of the bus and pick his bunions all
day long.
One day, Joe came to his boss and said, "Boss, I can't take it
anymore. I quit!"
"But why Joe", said his boss, "you've driven that bus for years!"
Joe replied, "Because it's the same thing every day. The same bus,
the same route, the same people. All day, every day, the same thing.
Two obese Pattis, special Ross, Lester Cheese picking bunions on a
Sesame Street Bus!"
::::::::::::::::::::::::::: TODAY'S RECIPE ::::::::::::::::::::::::::
I couldn't let a "Seafood Extravaganza" menu go without one of my
favorite items on the British breakfast buffet. Smoked fish for
breakfast may sound a bit odd, but they go with scrambled eggs every
bit as well as crisp bacon does. Try it and I'm sure you'll agree.
Grilled Kippered Herring
4 to 8 kippers* (smoked herring)
2 Tbs (30 ml) butter
Freshly ground pepper to taste
Lemon juice
Place the kippers skin side down on a hot grill or griddle and dot
with butter. Cook 4 to 5 minutes, without turning, until very hot.
Season with pepper and lemon juice. Serve with scrambled eggs.
Serves 3 to 4.
* If using canned kippers, which are too fragile to be cooked in this
manner, bake in a 350F (180C) oven for 10 minutes, following the same
procedure.
