:::::::::::::::::::::::: FOOD FUNNY ::::::::::::::::::::::::

Thanks to reader "Kayenoble" for today's food funny.

"Tell me something," asked Joe "how many cookies can you eat on an
empty stomach, Pete?"

Pete thought for a while and answered, "Five, I think!"

"Wrong," said Joe, "because your stomach is no longer empty after
you've eaten your first one. So the other four don't count! Gotcha,
ha, ha!"

Pete, the dud, was impressed. I must try it on my wife, he thought to
himself.

"Honey, how many cookies can you eat on an empty stomach?"

"Two", came the answer.

"Aw shucks, hon. If you had said five, I would have told you a nice
one!"

:::::::::::::::::::::: TODAY'S RECIPE ::::::::::::::::::::::

Today's "My Mother's Favorites" recipe was given to her by our next
door neighbor back in the late 1950s. If anyone knows Eleanor Whipple
of Woodland Hills, California, please give her our love.

Cashew Salad

1/3 cup (80 ml) sugar
1/3 cup (80 ml) vinegar
1 tsp (5 ml) dry mustard
1 clove garlic, finely chopped
1 tsp (5 ml) celery seed
Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
Equal parts fresh raw spinach and leaf
lettuce, enough to serve 6 to 8
1/2 cup (125 ml) whole or coarsely chopped
cashews, or more to taste

Combine the sugar, vinegar, mustard, garlic, celery seed, salt, and
pepper in a bowl and whisk until combined. Toss the greens in the
dressing and place on individual serving plates. Sprinkle with the
cashews and serve immediately. Serves 6 to 8
