"Sailing Problems"

Dear Joe,

We'd had our new 36' Catalina a few weeks and
were anchored in the Kalamazoo river in
Saugatuck. We dingied ashore and ate in a
restaurant overlooking the harbor.

Halfway through the meal, we looked up and saw
our boat dragging downstream. We bolted for the
docks only to find our dingy half deflated - I
hadn't secured one of the valves.

We rowed the half deflated boat - water coming
over the gunwales with each stroke - through
the busy weekend traffic and finally caught her,
started the engine and put her in reverse just
before she would have struck the chain ferry.
The next week, I bought a MUCH bigger anchor.

Happy sailing......Bill

Thanks for the story, Bill. I always enjoy reading
about the misfortunes of others. They make my
own misadventures seem so much less stupid.

"Parking Problems"

There was one rather amusing event at the garden
reception last weekend. Toward the end of the night,
as one of the guests was attempting to leave, he
was dismayed to discover that his car was gone!
Of all the things, parked on a side street in a nice,
quiet, residential neighborhood with a big party
rolling just a block away, somebody managed to
jack it with nobody noticing.

So, police were called, descriptions and plate
numbers were given, and it was somewhere in the
middle of filling out the report when the 'victim'
realized that the street he was standing on, talking
to the police, wasn't exactly like the street he had
parked on.

A hurried jog down a neighboring street soon
revealed the missing vehicle and apologies and
explanations were made before the guest quickly
left with much embarrassment.

And to answer you unspoken question, no, it was
not me, but I was there to witness the entire thing
and I am still laughing out loud just thinking about
it. That's the kind of thing that attaches itself to a
man for years.
