"Help for Seniors"
My mom has suffered severe depression since her
hubby passed away 4 weeks ago resulting in her
sleeping too much and losing strength to the point
where she was falling. I travelled up to Wichita,
(3 times in a week) to remove some of her freedom
and to have a serious chat with her. This is good
solid info for most senior citizens.
1. Circulate a phone list with your neighbors. (my
mom's neighbors didn't know who to call) I corrected
this problem and everyone feels better.
2. Pass out some house keys. (at this stage in life
the odds are greater you will need medical attention
than be robbed).
3. Leave a hidden key outside of the house.
4. Have a medical alert pendant that will dial to a help
line.( I ordered one for my mom) There are many
companies that do this, but I preferred the one that
pays month by month.
5. Have a face to face with the doctor. Get his opinion.
6. Call the parents friends and get a network going for
support/checking up. Tell them never ever to assume
she is out if the phone is not answered.
For The Parent.
1. They must contact a neighbor when they leave the
house so as not to cause alarm if they don't answer
the door.
2. Exercise with a friend, walk.
3. Get out of the house. The difference between a
coffin and a house is the size. Go to church, synagogue,
where-ever, mingle with people.
After I did these things for my mom, she perked right up.
She feels 'alive' again and not depressed.
